  • Lexus began offering all-wheel drive in the IS lineup in 2006 when the IS 250 AWD debuted in North America. However, in other global markets, the IS, which was also sold as the Toyota Altezza in Japan, was already available with all-wheel drive. The IS 300 was the name used on the first generation of the IS lineup. For the current generation, the IS 300 slots in between the entry-level IS 200t and the 306-hp IS 350. The IS 300’s all-wheel drive system splits power 50/50 between the front and rear wheels in normal driving conditions. The system can also vary that power between the front and rear wheels as needed for improved traction and control when driving in poor weather conditions or surfaces that aren’t paved. Powering the IS 300 is a 3.5-liter V-6 good for 255 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. Like in the all-wheel-drive variant of the IS 350, the only transmission available is a six-speed automatic
